Carer/Personal Assistant, Wollaton of Nottingham NG5, NOTSG1711
This position is supporting a male in the WOLLATON area of NOTTINGHAM.
A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Personal Assistant Carer (PA) to provide 24 hour care throughout the year and become part of a small family led team who provide complete care and support to their young adult daughter living in Nottingham in a home adjacent to her parents’ home.
The lady has a neuro-developmental condition which means in short that she has limited walking skills and non-verbal communication. The young lady is extremely well balanced, happy and contented - ' a loving presence' as her school teacher remarked in her end of school report. The lady is helpful and supportive to all that happens around her and reacts reasonably well to spoken English language with some guidance.
The successful candidate will live in and work a 5 x 24 hour day each 4 week period (set days to be discussed). The young lady mostly sleeps through the night but the PA will need to have watchful rest and so responsibilities run overnight. Overnight accommodation is provided in the lady's home and close by the lady for better performance of duties.
The duties will involve all aspects of daily care for the lady and include social visits outside the home and visits to Doctors, dentistry etc. as and when required. Some beneficial and enjoyable therapeutic sporting activities are part of the ladies recreational needs and the PA will be responsible for total involvement and care during these times e.g. swimming and horse riding for the disabled.
Daily care includes cooking, sufficient meal and drinks preparation to a high and relevant nutritional standard and maintaining high standards of hygiene, personal care, giving medication, companionship.
You will be required to provide personal care at all times and be responsible for her physical wellbeing and safe mobility around the home or outdoors. Duties will include dressing/clothing, bathing, toileting, assistance with mobility (the lady can walk limited distances with close management) and supporting at meal times (the lady self feeds and drinks with support). Domestic duties include laundry, changing bed linen as required, light domestic duties, and hygienic cleaning.
Relevant training will be identified and provided by the young lady's parents.
Parents are on hand for regular discussions on issues arising. The successful person will be directly accountable to and take directions from the lady's parents.
Ideally the candidate will have a good general education, experience of working as a carer or personal assistant and be fully committed to their professional vocation and forming a genuine, respectful and caring attachment to this young lady. Preferably they have knowledge of disability issues and an understanding of the barriers which impact on daily life. They should be trustworthy, reliable and punctual, friendly and outgoing, patient and supportive, respectful of the lady's dignity and privacy, and have an understanding of the confidential nature of the work.
The successful candidate will be a careful driver with a full clean driving licence, business class insurance, access to a vehicle and valid MOT Certificate.
Recent satisfactory references will be required where appropriate and a DBS check. This will be confidential and at no cost to yourself.
Please be aware that confirmation of this appointment will be made on successful completion of a 6 month probationary period.
